Constantia Wine and Elgin Fruit Route
This route includes some of the most scenic country drives around Cape Town including views of the deciduous fruit farms famous in this part of the Western Cape.
- We start with a visit to one of Constantia’s famous vineyards.
- Then on to Elgin-Grabouw as part of driving over the four passes Fruit Route linking Elgin to Vyeboom, Villersdorp, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.
- The four passes are Sir Lowery’s, Viljoen’s, Franschhoek and Helshoogte.
- We visit Grabouw and Elgin which are the largest single fruit producing areas in Southern Africa as between them they produce 70% of apples in South Africa.
- We also visit The Elgin Apple Museum, which is open during the week, plus fruit farms and packing stations.
- We travel on to Franschhoek for lunch at Dieu Donne and a stop at the Huguenot Monument and Museum.
- We drive back to Cape Town along little used farming back roads to the coast and take beautiful coastal road via Klienmond.
